2021 will be a bit of a different year for Pinterest topics. I have been doing a tonne of research on Pinterest and I wanted to share with you these super easy free methods to find what’s trending on Pinterest in 2021.
When you are looking for what’s trending on Pinterest, you need to work out what is popular in your niche. There are so many reasons that I will get into later about why its a good idea to do a bit of research about what is trending.
Find what’s trending on Pinterest in 2021. Build your content around these topics and watch your traffic rocket sky high!

Now I am in no way an expert on Pinterest as I am still learning myself, these are just the best ways I have found to be able to see what is trending.
🡫🡫 PIN FOR LATER IF YOU DON’T HAVE TIME TO READ IT NOW 🡫🡫
Why should you look at what’s trending on Pinterest?
Repins
This is great if you are starting an account and you don’t have many blog posts yet!
If you find popular pins in your niche you will be able to decide the best pins to repin to your boards. This will help your boards and account rank higher in the search. It will also let Pinterest know that your pins are similar to the pins you are repinning. Pinterest knows exactly what the popular pins are about. So you need to let Pinterest know that your pins are similar.
Blog Post Ideas
Finding whats popular on Pinterest is also a great way to decide what to write blog posts about. You can find what people are interested in and what will get the most hits. You can also use it to decide if the competition is too strong. Decide whether you should try and go for something that has less competition.
If you can blow up your blog traffic to certain posts about a trending topic, then you can use this traffic and convert it into sales. Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money as a blogger. You can include ads and affiliate links in these popular posts to generate sales and money.
If you build your content around the popular topics then you have a much better chance at ranking on pinterest (as well as google). Pinterest are interesting what the people want. So your main gaol as a blogger is to write content based on what people want to read.
How to find what’s trending on Pinterest: Overview
- Go to the popular on Pinterest section
- Visit the category page
- Repinned
- Pin on Top
- Use topic headings
- Use the trends section

Popular on Pinterest section
So one of the easiest ways to find what’s popular on Pinterest is to click the search bar. If you look under the ideas suggested based on your searches, you can find the popular on Pinterest section. This shows all the topics that people have been searching for the most often that month.
This is the most obvious way to find whats trending on Pinterest. As it is easy to stumble across when you are digging around Pinterest.
Category page
Popular pins are found on the category page. If you just enter the URL (https://www.pinterest.co.uk/categories/) you can find the page.
Now because you have to go to a different URL, a couple people are not aware of this method.
If you click on the popular section you will be shown a selection of topics that are trending on Pinterest.
PIN IT FOR LATER!
Repinned
Repinned is a website that shows a list of all the most repinned pins.
IT IS FREE TO USE!
If you click on the More tab, you can choose a category that relates to your niche and you can start viewing pins. It makes sense to save these pins to your boards. As you want to show Pinterest that your pins relate to the popular one.
Pin on Top
Pin on Top is a chrome extension that shows you how many times a pin has been repined. When you are signed into Pinterest, search your niche and turn on the little Pin on Top tool at the top of your page.
When it opens, sort it by the first two pages (as you can see below)and click on sort. This result should pop up in a minute and show you how many times each pin has been saved.
For example, I have chosen ‘WordPress plugins for beginners’ as I have blog posts and pins relating to this topic.
As you can see in the image below, you are now able to see the number of saves each pin has received.
Use the Pinterest topic headings
A great way to find the most searched keywords for your niche is to look at the topic bar that comes up when you enter a search word.
As you can see, when I search for ‘WordPress plugins’, I get a bar appearing at the top. So it starts with ‘for bloggers, ‘best’, ‘business’. These are the dorts of things that people are searching for.
This means you need to include these keywords in your posts and pin descriptions as this is what is trending. The topics bar shows the most popular option on the left. The keywords get less popular as you get to the right.
Use the Pinterest trends section
Under the analytics button, you can find ‘trends’. Here you can see the keywords people search and how often they are searched. You can see at what point in the year the keyword becomes most popular.
As you can see below, I searched the keyword ‘Halloween cupcakes’. So people started searching for this term around the start of August. The graph then drops right down on the week ending 11th November. Therefore you know if you post a Halloween pin on the day of Halloween, you won’t get many views or link clicks at all.
Pinterest Trends also offers you related terms which you can see under the graph. You can use this to possibly target some different keywords.
What’s trending on Pinterest in 2021
You have to think about other people. Think about things in the news. Thnk about what is happening in peoples lives and on social media. In some senses, it can be helpful to sue a bit of common sense.
As far as I can see, Pinterest in 2021 will revolve around the issues surrounding coronavirus and lockdowns. Think about staycations and keeping busy in lockdown.
People will be searching for ways they can make the most of lockdown. Lots of people will be going on health kicks whilst others will be wanting to know what the best films on Netflix are.
Stir away from any posts on travelling as not many people will be interested in this topic during these times. People won’t be interesting in packing lists or travel tips as not many people are travelling.
Additional Info: Pinterest Courses
As I am someone who has yet to master Pinterest, I thought it would be useful if I include some brilliant resources I have previously used and have learnt so much from:
- Pinteresting Strategies – Carly Campbell from Mommy on Purpose – This course goes through a manual pinning strategy that Carly used to achieve 200k page views to her blog per month.
- Pinterest Perfect Ebook – Mariam from Boss Babe Chronicles – This ebook shows how Mariam managed to get her monthly Pinterest views to 2.3 million by using tailwind!
I definitely recommend investing in a Pinterest course. There is so much to learn that you just cannot find through the internet. I was very reluctant to spend any money at first. But I can honestly say that it was well worth the investment as my monthly blog views have doubled this May compared to April due to Pinterest as I started an account.
Conclusion
So to conclude, I do think it is massively important to have an idea of what is trending on Pinterest. Even if you aren’t a massive Pinterest user, it is a great way to find what topics to write your blog posts about.
But having said that, Pinterest brings so many bloggers a huge amount of traffic (as I mentioned the courses above and how massive their stats are), so I would say do some research on how to use Pinterest to get views to your blog if you are unsure on it. Or simply invest in a course which will explain it all to you in one place.
I would heavily recommend you try out a course if you are looking to get most of your traffic from Pinterest. There are so many things you can learn from these resources that you can’t find on the internet and they will be the make or break for you.
