‘4 Ways Bloggers can Use Social Media’ written by By: Johana M. Caba, M.A.
Social media is one of the most powerful tools for bloggers. It does not matter whether you prefer Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, TikTok or LinkedIn because the bottom line is that using social media will help you in promoting your blog content, promoting your affiliate partnerships, promoting products that you create and sell, and in your overall social media marketing plan.
Some of the most important ways that you can use social media as a blogger include to engage with your niche communities, to build relationships with other bloggers and to support each other with tips and advice. A big part of being successful on social media and attracting traffic to your blog is being active. It is important to engage, post, share others posts, follow, comment and ask valuable questions within your niche community.
By staying active, you can discover opportunities like writing guest blog posts for others which will help you with your backlink building to get a higher domain authority (DA). Staying active also helps you in getting content ideas from others, it helps you be aware of what is going on in your niche and it helps keep you motivated. With that said, there are a lot of ways that bloggers can use these platforms, here are 4 of my best ways that bloggers can use Social Media to promote their blogs and build their personal brands.

Inbound Marketing Methodology:
Inbound marketing might sound like a scary marketing world term, but it helps you cater to your specific audience. So, what is inbound marketing? Well, inbound marketing is a way of attracting people to your website through content marketing, social media marketing, search engine optimization and branding. Inbound marketing consists of a methodology that focuses on Attracting, Engaging and Delighting your potential customers or target audience.
By using the inbound marketing methodology, you are essentially creating a social media marketing strategy that will attract, engage and delight your target audience. For these reasons, it is important that you know and understands who you are targeting with your blog. You must know the demographics and psychographics of your target audience in order to create the best strategy to attract them. This will also help you determine where your audience engages the most. You might find that your audience engages more on Pinterest than on Twitter or on Instagram more than Facebook depending on your niche.
By understanding how to attract your audience and where they engage, you can determine the type of content that will delight them. Delighting is the last step in the methodology because it focuses on ensuring that your audience is enjoying your content and that you are providing a great experience. By incorporating the Inbound Marketing methodology, you will gain a better understanding of your audience and help guide them towards viewing your content. This can also help you in attracting them towards your call-to-action which can be reading your blog or purchasing something from your website.

Promoting Blog Content:
One of the oldest tricks for promoting content on social media is to use hashtags to increase the reach of your posts. You can use them to reach the specific niche communities that you want to attract to your blog posts. This also helps categorize your posts on social media. For example, you can use the hashtag #SocialMediaMarketing or #SMM to classify your post and make it easily accessible for someone researching that specific hashtag or someone researching similar keywords on a social media platform.
Tip: A component of proper social media etiquette that a lot of people, both for professional and personal purposes, do not follow is making sure to capitalize the first letter of every word in a hashtag to make it easier for others to read and understand, especially when it is a longer hashtag.
Another important aspect of blog promotion is using keywords to optimize your blogs and make it easier for search engines to discover them. Search engine optimization (SEO) is something we all need to know. In the simplest of terms, search engine optimization refers to the process of growing or increasing traffic to a website by increasing the visibility of the webpage for search engines. This can be done by using keywords which you can research using tools like Google Keywords.
A third way for promoting your blog content is to re-post older blogs on your social media channels. You can create new graphics for older posts as a way to refresh the content. By creating new graphics, you can make new posts on Pinterest which is a great social media platform for promoting blogs.
Visit the JM Blog for some graphic design tips and tools that you can use to design new graphics.
Tip: Try posting new pins 4-7 times per week to help increase your visibility and your blog traffic from Pinterest. Some bloggers recommend posting 10-15 new pins per day on Pinterest for fast traffic growth to your website, but it depends on your own promotional strategy and what you are trying to achieve.
Dominate Your Niche on Social Media:
Dominate your niche through social media by adding your unique value. Develop content that demonstrates your unique added value to the topics your target audience wants answered. Your goal when writing blogs, aside from getting views, should be to add value. Adding value to the content you write is the best way to make a footprint in your niche. By adding value, you ensure that others know that you are sharing good content. Value creation is important for any small business, blogger or other content creator. If you are not adding value, then you will not get the results that you want.
Example: As a social media marketing and public relations professional, I know that I can add unique value by writing about tips and sharing guides to help the small business community and bloggers with social media marketing and public relations advice. After creating content, promote it on social media to showcase how your blog posts add value for your readers.
Tip: A great way of promoting your new and older content is scheduling social media posts with automation tools. By automating your posts, you can focus on writing good content and participating in conversations on social media platforms that will be beneficial to your blog’s growth. This also helps you get one thing off of your plate. Bloggers are their own promotional teams, content creators, graphic designers and website developers. There is a lot on their plates, and by automating social media posts, they give themselves more time to focus on other important parts of their brands.
In one of my latest posts on the JM Blog, I go over how to use Public Relations for Small Business which bloggers can also use and take advantage of the tips in this post to begin using public relations in their promotional toolkit.
Build Your Personal Brand:
Building your personal brand online might sound like a very hard task, but you already have the building blocks in place. You have a website, a blog and a social media presence. By using these resources and showcasing your knowledge on social media, you are building your personal brand. Think about what you want your audience to think of when they think of you. Do you want them to see your name or blog and immediately think of DIY or Blogging Advice or Home Décor? Asking yourself this question will help you in developing your personal brand. Use your social media presence strategically and use it to promote your blog content.
Build Your Personal Brand – Tips:
Tip: Some tips for creating a good personal brand are: (1) Be consistent on your social media platforms, (2) Don’t post the exact same thing on every platform, instead edit it to fit the specific platform in which you are posting, and (3) Use the same profile photo and banners on your different platforms to help current and potential followers easily find you. It is also a good idea to use the same color scheme when designing your logo, banners and graphics.
Tip: Always include your logo on your graphics and name on your blogs for branding purposes. Another important part of your personal brand that you might have overlooked is your “About Me” page. Your “About Me” focuses on showing your readers who you are and sharing a little bit about yourself with them.
Tip: A good tip here is to keep it short, on point and personal to you to showcase your personality to your audience.
