So it’s getting close to Christmas time and you want to add a little bit more money to your bank account so you can afford that special gift for that special someone! I get it! That’s why I’ve got 10 of the best side hustles you can start at Christmas – this goes for everyone!
Hi my name is Jack and thank you for taking the time to read this guest post. While you’re here make sure to check out more of Amber’s work as she creates some fantastic content! Like if you are a struggling student for example, she has created a great guide on how you can save money!
If you like, you can check me out too! I create all sorts of content around:
Your money; how you can save it, make more of it, invest it and make it go much further, just to scratch the surface.
Your fitness; how to get in the best shape, how to diet for your goals and workout programs.
Travel; some of the best destinations I’ve been to, recommendations and reviews!
If any of that sounds interesting, head on over!
I digress!
You want to find ways of adding money to your name, either to supply your gifts for the now, or to build an extra income stream for the future, and I have the solution. 10 of the best side hustles at Christmas, starting with…
Blog
This is a blog right now, what you are reading!
This is Amber’s blog, and I have my own blog.
Blog’s are all over the internet and half the time you probably didn’t even realise you were on one! Like when you were comparing which vacuum cleaner you should buy! Or building up your holiday itinerary.
What people don’t know however that blog’s are a great source of mass income, eventually.
It takes time, work and effort but are the results worth it! It’s like building a business, but your product is the information you provide on a topic that you are knowledgeable on and interested in.
There are so many ways you can make money off a blog, it’s unbelievable!
There are:
- Ads – you get paid for each eyeball that sees it and/or for clicks
- Affiliations – you promote someone else’s products and when there’s a sale through your link you earn a figure or a commission.
- Link shortening – you can actually shorten links and get paid every time some clicks that link.
- Products – you can create your own product’s which are relevant to your subject matter and sell them from your blog.
- eBooks – you can create books full of information compiled from old posts and sell it for convenience, or write a new one and build it from the ground up.
This is just scratching the surface!
The point is, there are many ways a blog can be profitable, you just have to do the time and write the good stuff!
Check out my friend Brianna’s post on How to start a money-making blog.
Dog Walking
I think this is a fantastic one to start over the festive period and it might be my favourite one of 10 of the best side hustles you can start at Christmas, for no other reason than my love of dogs!
Think of how many dogs are likely given as a gift for Christmas time. Then think of how many dogs are abandoned shortly after – it’s heartbreaking!
People don’t realise that a dog is not just for Christmas, it’s for life.
If you love dogs, you could consider getting yourself into the business and ensure that those newly acquired dogs, are looked after in their owner’s absence!
Start by setting up your social media platforms and handing out flyers, if it goes well you can set up your own website and start taking bookings from there!
Make sure you register your business on the company house, if you want to stay in line with Johnny Law!
Dividends
The most lazy side hustle there is, but it has the potential to be the most passive, it all depends on how much you can afford to invest!
People hear the market and instantly think off major debt or The Wolf of Wall Street, but it’s just not anything like that, especially if you’re investing for an income!
When it comes to the market there are two players, there are your traders and then there are your investors.
Your traders will play around with big chunks of capital (physical cash), trade it on a margin and watch every up and down, analysing the trajectory of the market and gazing at the news for any company news. This is far too time consuming and far too risky!
That leaves the investors. This is for the people who are happy to not have overnight riches, or at the same time, overnight debt!
Investors, like myself, buy shares in a company, and forget about it!
You don’t need to look at the news for anything detrimental, or you don’t need to check it every ten minutes to see if the share price has gone up or down, no. None of that matters, because what we are doing as investors is looking for an income, not capital gain!
Dividends are a payout that a company gives you simply for owning shares within their company. Each dividend price per each share will be low, but this is why you invest as much as you can as often is you can! The more shares you own, the bigger payout you will get!
If you are looking for a more comprehensive explanation on dividends, you can find one right here!
Stream
This is a good one!
Society as a whole is shifting, and we are shifting away from TV now, and instead looking elsewhere for our entertainment. This more often than not, comes in the form of a stream.
Arguably, Netflix is the biggest streaming service there is!
But you can stream too! It doesn’t have to be a Rom Com or a Drama. It can be anything from baking to DIY, there really is no limits to what you can stream.
If you build up a sizeable enough audience from doing what you do, you can start to earn from display ads on your stream, and from donations from your viewers!
A good place to get started would be Twitch.

Etsy
When it comes to side hustles, this is the most creative!
Do you have an artsy or crafty side, and you’d love the opportunity to be able to sell your work? Well now you can!
Etsy is a platform where you can sell just about anything that you have made. There are people that sell sculptures, to paintings, to baby items, to tea cups. If you can make it, you can sell it!
Especially with the pandemic still rolling around, if you’re stuck in home and finding yourself wanting to craft, this could be a good way for you to make money off of it!
Create
This covers a few possibilities, and I will outline them.
Creating can be a very profitable money stream, especially if you have the knowledge or platform to market it.
The bonus of this is, there is plenty that you can create:
Online Course
Do you have a lot of knowledge or expertise on a certain subject and you feel as though you wouldn’t want to be a teacher?
That’s OK! Udemy makes it easy, for you to be able to sell your knowledge!
All you have to do is create your course.
Fill it full of notes, videos, sound clips, quizzes, and much more to build up a really worthwhile course document that you feel someone would genuinely benefit from.
Once you have done, upload it and you can start selling.
Product
This is especially easier if you can create a digital product.
Among bloggers, content aids or calendars are typically a good digital product you can create.
Better yet, if you have a blog, you can sell your digital product there!
Music
Don’t have the lungs for singing, but you enjoy making a beat and you have the software for it?
Awesome, there are plenty of platforms that allow you to upload your music to get your name out there, or you can upload it to paid platforms where people can purchase the rights to use your music and you take a cut.
If you get really good at it and get bigger, you could even start to make money from royalties, now wouldn’t that be the dream!
App
Got a bit of a nerdy side have you?
Feel like you have a brilliant idea for the next app on the market that could change the game?
What’s stopping you, get to coding!
If you don’t have the skills, you can hire someone. You can share the profits or you can pay them an upfront fee.
You could even create two versions, which you have probably seen before, a lite and a full. Create the lite to get people interested, and encourage them to purchase the full version!
Write an eBook
Consider yourself a bit of a novelist? That’s awesome, loads of people love a good read!
This is an especially good time to write and release an eBook too, with the ongoing situation where people are locked away indoors, they are looking for ways to entertain themselves and a book is a great way!
You could even theme it around Christmas too, as there are never enough Christmas books and movies out there.
It’s never been so easy to get a book out there now to the world, as you can self publish your own eBook and upload it to great hubs, like Amazon, allowing you to get your eBook on the Kindle!
Sell Photos
Quite nifty with a camera aye?
Quite a useful skill to have. There are always people out there willing to pay for top quality photographs to head their magazine, or newspaper, or to even be the top banner on a top website, you could be looking at some good money then!
Of course it is always preferable to sell to the bigger fish to get the most money, but if you’re serious about it you will likely have to take stepping stones!
Whenever you get a good snap of something, try and get two, one slightly different from the other.
That way, you can upload one to Shutterstock and earn some money from it, and with the other one you can upload it to your photography Instagram, which you can use to help get your name out there and share your snaps with the world!
Only Fans
There are some blurred lines around this one, as in recent times it has gained a notorious reputation from people uploading lewd images and videos to it, and earning money from it.
Intuitive thinking if you ask me, and I’m a big believer in letting people crack on with their lives; do what they want to do! But some people don’t like it.
However, Only Fans doesn’t have to be used in that way, it can be used to upload anything.
If you are a skilled psychiatrist, you can sell useful information on there.
If you are a skilled builder, you can sell useful information on there.
Just because of the recurrent theme around it, it doesn’t have to be used that way, it wasn’t intended to be used that way. Some intuitive people set a trend and it caught on.
If you want to use it for lewd content, live your life. If you want to use it to sell images and videos of your skill, hobby, craft, job or anything else on there, then go ahead, live your life!
People will sign up to be a ‘fan’ and they will pay you £x.xx amount each month to view what you have to offer.
Property
My absolute favourite!
I love property – it is hands down one of the best investments you can make, and it can make for a pretty sweet side hustle too!
It’s not all about just spending a tonne of money to buy a property and rent it out, there is so much more to it now…
Landlord
The obvious one.
If you have extra money lying about, then it is definitely worth your time.
You can purchase a second property and rent it out for a good, steady passive income.
Yielding around 5-8% a year in the U.K., it is one of the best investments you can make!
Shared Ownership
If ever you have gone on Right Move and saw a house for sale that was only £10.000, when you feel sure it should be worth over £100.000, chances are it’s shared.
Shared ownerships are a great way for people to get on the physical property ladder and start earning a bit of money from a rental income.
Typically you would be unable to live in a shared ownership house, unless you want to pay rent to your counterpart at the same time; it doesn’t make sense! Typically these are solely for investments!
This is ideal for people who don’t have as much money as those who can afford to buy a house on their own. This still offers you a way into the market and you can still start to earn some easy passive income, off of your tenants, it just won’t be as much as it would be if you owned the house yourself!
Development
This is something I have always wanted to do and at some point, I will!
This is where you buy a house that is a bit battered and bruised, on an auction house for a cut rate. You spend the time and the money to get it back into a good working order, and then you can either live in it, sell it on for what will likely be nice profit, or keep it in your portfolio and rent it out.
Any of them are good options and likely to yield some nice profits. This is especially good if you love a project; it’s a real good opportunity to get your hands dirty!
REIT
A Real Estate Investment Trust, is a great way to get into the housing business without actually having to manage the property yourself.
Better yet, anyone can get involved. From as little as £500, you can invest into a REIT and start to earn from it.
A REIT will use your investment and the investment of others, to buy more and improve their existing stock of houses, and in turn they will split the profits with their investors. It’s a pretty nifty way of getting similar results of being a landlord, without actually having to be a landlord yourself!
You can get started here!
Final Thoughts
I hope you enjoyed my post on 10 of the best side hustles at Christmas, and better yet, I gave you some food for thought, and some ideas and motivation to get one started yourself.
Not only are they a good opportunity to add another income stream to your bank account, but they can act as a good hobby as well, especially if you pursue a passion project and are able to start earning some good money from it!
